Projects and Programs of Main Street Greensburg

Main Street Greensburg is a not-for-profit, public/private entity with the purpose of promoting commercial growth, preserving historic aspects,  and enhancing the quality of life for the downtown community, thereby insuring Greensburg’s role as the nucleus of economic, cultural, governmental, and social activity in Decatur County.  As the city’s Main Street affiliate, we employ the Four Point Approach to revitalizing our downtown, which includes the following programs:

Farmers’ Market:  From the Spring to Fall, on every Friday the

south side o
f the courthouse lawn is lined with fresh vegetables, fruits, and other items produced locally for shoppers to experience.  The Greensburg/Decatur County Farmers’ Market is held between the hours of 2pm and 6pm, and all are invited to come shop, sell, or just visit.  Come out and see what Southeast Indiana has to offer...

$5000 one-to-one matching grant to any building or business owner in the downtown historic district.  This program provides an incentive for the renovation and preservation of the downtown facades, as well as funding for signs, lighting, and awnings that help compliment the historic architecture and give the area a collective feel.  The goal of the grant is facilitate new and existing owners with means to develop their buildings/businesses, while helping to preserve what makes the downtown special. Downtown Low-Interest Revolving Loan Program:
Established in 2009, this fund constructed from generous investments made by Mainsource Bank, First Financial Bank, First Federal Savings and Loan of Greensburg, and a Downtown Enhancement Grant awarded by the State Office of Community and Rural Affairs/Indiana Main Street.  The loan can be used for any interior/exterior renovation of a downtown building, from bringing the building up to code (if needed) to help in the facilitation of a new business. New Design Plan for Downtown: In an effort to increase
public safety, enhance the aesthetics of the area, and provide guidelines for the Downtown Historic District, new design plans are being created for Greensburg’s City Center.  Ratio Architects will be relying on the input of the general public, focus groups, and  state/local government to help give a fresh look to the district.  Click photo.
