Since it’s conception, Downtown Greensburg has served as the economic center for Decatur County. The only thing that’s changed in through the years is the unique mix of retail, service and eateries along the downtown streets. Today is no different, with businesses ranging from law offices to surveyors, clothing to pottery, appliances to tattoos, pork tenderloin sandwiches to cappuccinos. One can take an easy stroll around the square simply to window shop, chat with an owner, grab a quick snack or bite to eat, and buy that one-of-a-kind item. It’s been the lifestyle of Downtown for more than a century, and we’re not about to change it now.
But what does change Downtown are the opportunities for new businesses. Due to efforts by this organization and others, spaces once kept vacant and undeveloped are now revisited and renovated, providing new locations for today’s business without sacrificing the character and tradition of Downtown. Hardwood floors, solid brick walls and second and third-story apartments with fantastic views of the area-- all available at a commercial center. Here you can take a break from work, walk down and get some coffee. You can meet a neighbor and have lunch next door. Additionally, any help you need: accounting, law, governmental, communications, computer, shipping-- all these services are right out your door. You don’t even need to start the car.
The Downtown has a rich history as the commercial center of Greensburg, and we hope not only to continue this tradition, but encourage it’s development. Various projects and programs aimed at supporting the present and new businesses are currently intact and continue to be developed. We understand the importance of Downtown’s historic qualities and its position as the city center, but we also realize young entrepreneurs may need some help getting started, or a current business may need some aid during a renovation period. Heart of the  Tree City, The Greensburg/Decatur County Chamber of Commerce, and The Economic Development Corporation strive to provide the necessary resources to help business grow. We look forward to working with you.
